The trees commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledges her 70 years of service as Australia`s Head of State. 

The trees were planted in August 2022 and the plaque was unveiled at the site on the 7th December 2022.

City of Fremantle received funding of $7,100 from the Queen`s Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting Program which will run from 2021-2024. The project will plant native trees at Arthur Head Whalers Tunnel, install a commemorative plaque and hold an event in honour of The Queen’s Jubilee. This will beautify the local environment and enhance the tree canopy. 

Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female monarch in history.

As a result of a Federal Government grant for the Queen's Jubilee, we have been able to plant out the Arthur Head area adjacent to Bathers Beach! Last week, around 1,200 native species were planted around Whalers Tunnel entry and adjacent coastal scrub. The remaining funds from the grant will be used for summer watering and the purchasing and planting of even more mature species to compliment the species already planted. A commemorative plaque will be installed with a small ceremony scheduled for November 2022.
