Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Centenary of the Diocese of BendigoPrint Page
The tree was planted to commemorate the centenary of the Diocese of Bendigo from 1902 to 2002.
The First Assembly of the Diocese was held on the 8th September 1902.
BENDIGO, Monday. Tonight the first Assembly in connection with the Bendigo Anglican Diocese was opened. The Bishop (Dr Langley) and about 40 clerical and lay representatives were present. The Bishop delivered a lengthy address, in which he spoke hopefully of the future outlook. He made an earnest plea for assistance in securing Scriptural education in State schools, and referring to the stipends of the clergy, he said that those in charge of parishes should receive not less than £250 and a house. Among the notices of motion given, was one to provide a scheme for the better endowment of the diocese, and another to make better provision for the parochial clergy.
Ballarat Star (Vic.), 9 September 1902.
