The foundation stone was laid in 2004 by the Kaurareg People to commemorate the Independent Church of Torres Strait and Kaiwalagal.
The land was given to Bishop Hankin by the Kaurareg People to mark the consecration of the first Torres Strait Islander Diocesan Bishop to the people of the Kaurareg Nation.

This land was very generously given to Bishop G. Hankin to mark the consecration of the first Torres Strait Islander Diocesan Bishop to the people of the Kaurareg Nation
