The foundation stone of the former Queensland University Library building commemorates the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Queensland.

The University of Queensland was the first university in the state and was officially founded on April 16, 1910, with the gazettal of appointments to the first UQ Senate. Teaching started in 1911 in Old Government House in George Street, Brisbane.

This foundation stone of the Library building erected to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the foundation of the University was laid by the Honourable William Forgan Smith M.L.A. the Premier of Queensland on the thirteenth day of April 1935.
