The plaque commemorates building of the wall and lookout by the citizens of Mount Gambier in 1918.

On November 27 1918, which was a public holiday, Mount Gambier had its greatest ever working bee. 800 tradesmen and labourers, 300 women who supplied the food, as well as vegetables donated by Chinese market gardeners, encouraged by 700 visitors and 650 school children constructed three wooden look-outs over the three Lakes and virtually completed a stone wall ten chains long and ten to fourteen feet high.
