First State Boy Scout CampPrint Page
The plaque commemorates the first State Boy Scout Camp held at Milang from 25 December 1909 to 3rd January 1910.
The boy scouts camp, which was started on December 24 and continued through the holidays, was brought to a close on Monday, when the boys struck their tents, and returned home by the afternoon train, delighted with their experiences. On Saturday evening they gave a concert in the Milang Institute, before a crowded audience, and a large profit was realised. A long and varied programme was given.
Thanks are due to District Scoutmaster Kalman for his untiring efforts to make the camp a success, while Mr. O. Shaughnessy, the secretary of the local camp committee, is also worthy of mention. Others who worked hard to make the camp successful and pleasant are Scoutmasters Moore and Leschen, District Scoutmaster Hynch, Scouts L. Juer, I. Gray, and T. Atkinson and last and certainly not least, the commissioner, Major A. E. Shepherd. The local committee (referred to in our last issue) did a great deal to make the stay of their numerous visitors pleasant and enjoy able.
