The plaque commemorates the Jubilee of the laying of the foundation stone of the building. The original foundation stone was laid on the 11th November 1920.

The foundation stone of the new Pulteney Grammar School will be placed in position by His Excellency the Governor this afternoon. The Pulteney Street School was founded in 1847. In the war nearly 1,000 old boys, offered their services to the Empire, including Capt. Blackburn, the first South Australian to win the Victoria Cross. The council is erecting a first-class, up-to-date building, on South terrace, to accommodate 320 boys.
