The plaque commemorates the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Marra Bridge in 1962.

The bridge was originally constructed with Jarrah logs and beams but many of the piles have now been replaced with steel. The decking which supports the road is still the large Jarrah logs.

Floods in 1982 came within 45 centimetres of the roadway on the bridge.
