The plaque was erected to commemorate a tree that was destroyed because it was thought it was infected with white ants.  No white ants were found when the tree was chopped down.

Front Inscription

In memory of the tree that was destroyed because it was thought to be riddled with white ants,

No white ants whatever were found and the tree was destroyed and the trough removed.

It was removed shortly before the Nairne Centenary.
