The sculpture "Cherished Mother and Child" commemorates the apology made on behalf of the Australian Government by the Prime Minister Julia Gillard ton the 21rst of March 2013, to people affected by forced adoption or removal policies and practices, and the Victorian Parliamentary Apologies delivered by Premier Ted Baillieu and Deputy Premier Peter Ryan on the 25th of October 2012.

The sculpture was funded by Federal Government in conjunction with Independent Regional Mothers (Advocacy group) and Wellington Shire Council.

To commemorate Prime Minister Julia Gillard`s National Parliamentary apology on 21 March 2013

"Today this Parlaiment on behalf of the Australian people takes responsibility and apologises for the forced separations of mothers from their babies that caused a life long legacy of pain and suffering : betrayed by a system that gave you no choice." 

And Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu and Deputy Premier Pter Ryan`s Parliamentary apologies on 25 October 2012

"You were and are not to blame.  It was not your fault"
