The sculpture "Cherished Mother and Child" commemorates the apology made on behalf of the Australian Government by the Prime Minister Julia Gillard on the 21st of March 2013, to people affected by forced adoption or removal policies and practices, and the Victorian Parliamentary Apologies delivered by Premier Ted Baillieu and Deputy Premier Peter Ryan on the 25th of October 2012.
The sculpture was funded by Federal Government in conjunction with Independent Regional Mothers (Advocacy group) and Wellington Shire Council.
