Volunteer Recognition Garden
The Volunteer Recognition Garden was established on 15 February 2012 to acknowledge the dedication, contribution and commitment of past and present Roma Street Parkland volunteers.
The garden marks the 10th anniversary of the Parkland`s Volunteer Program and is designed to represent the circle of friendship that exists between volunteers, staff and visitors.
The Volunteer Program commenced in January 2002, almost one year after the official opening of the Parkland on 6 April 2001.
The program initially focussed on delivering guided tours to the public and compiling horticultural information but has continued to evolve in response to visitor demand and changing needs.
In October 2004, volunteer gardeners were added to the team with volunteer train drivers and conductors added in January 2011.
Volunteers help to ensure visitors are able to enjoy, access, interpret and fully appreciate all aspects of the Parkland.
Volunteers who achieve key milestones in terms of long-standing service, commitment and contribution are acknowledged by the Parkland each year in the Volunteer Recognition Garden.
