Lady Belmore TreePrint Page
An Elm tree was planted on the 15th March 2011 to commemorate 142 years since the planting of the original Lady Belmore Tree.
The original Lady Belmore Tree was planted in the park to commemorate the opening of the Sydney - Goulburn Railway Line in 1869. At the planting in Lord and Lady Belmore noted that the original plaque commemorating the 1869 oak tree planting was missing. Council’s engineering services director Terry Cooper told the Post at the time that its mounting mechanism had been damaged. It had been sent for repair, along with cleaning of the plaque’s lettering and would be re-mounted underneath the oak so as not to damage the tree.
Note: The original tree is listed under the entry Opening of the Sydney-Goulburn Railway.
