The plaque commemorates the personnel who served in the Royal Australian Air Force (R. A. A. F.) Flying Boat Squadrons during World War Two.
The plaque location is indicated by the red poppy in the second image.
Rathmines on Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, was an important base for the Catalina flying boats and their Squadrons, which played a significant role in Australia's defensive operations during World War Two. The R. A. A. F. operated 168 between 1941 and 1950, flown by four front line squadrons, two communications units and three air-sea rescue flights during World War Two.
The Catalina flying boats were the only aircraft to see service with the R. A. A. F. for the total wartime operations against Japan.

RAAF Flying Boats
This plaque commemorates those members of the Royal Australian Air Force who served during the Second World War in 11, 20, 41, 42, 43 Flying Boat Squadrons and 111, 112, 113, 114, 115 Air-Sea Rescue Flights
As well as those who served in Seaplane Training Flights, Operational Training Units, Flying Boat Repair Depots, Repair and Maintenance Units, and Operational Base Units.
RAAF flying boats flew on patrol, escort, rescue, bombing, mine laying and combined operations in the Pacific and Indian Oceans and far into the South China Sea in the war against Japan.
