The mosaic commemorates the women of Australia who served at home during World War Two. The mosaic is mounted on a stone cairn.
During World War Two, Australian women were encouraged to contribute to the war effort by joining one of the female branches of the armed forces or participating in the labour force. Australian women rose to the challenge of war by volunteering their services when manpower was limited and all Australians were needed to help sustain a functioning war economy.
