The monument commemorates the crew of Hudson Bomber which crashed in May 1942.
Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) Lockheed Hudson bomber Mark IIIA, A16-191 BW677 collided with Hudson A16-194 BW680, and crashed into thick mangroves at Barramundi Creek near Giru on 24th May 1942 all four crewmen were killed. Both aircraft were from 32 Squadron R.A.A.F.

In memory of the crew of Hudson Bomber A16 191 of 32 Squadron which crashed at Barramundi Creek near Giru on the 24th May 1942.
The four died instantly on impact, their bodies never recovered.
Erected by the Lions Club of Giru
This memorial was dedicated on the 24th May 2003 the 61st Anniversary of the event.
