The plaque commemorates No. 2 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F) that served in Darwin between 1941 and 1945 during World War Two.
At the outbreak of the World War Two, the unit searched for enemy vessels in Australian waters using Anson aircraft. After being re-equipped with Hudson aircraft, the squadron moved to Darwin in April 1941 to perform anti-submarine activities and general reconnaissance.
