The original gates were erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two. Two plaques are situated on the entrance gates which were opened in 1951. One plaque commemorates the opening of the oval and the other plaque commemorates World War Two.

The gates and pillars were removed and a new entrance was constructed in 2019.

Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning.
We will remember them."
