The plaques, mounted on a plinth, commemorate all who served with the 2nd / 1st, 2nd / 2nd, 2nd / 3rd and 2nd / 4th Australian Pioneer Battalions who were responsible for a range of tasks including the destruction of obstacles and construction of bridges to assist in the movement of troops during World War Two.
