United States of America Memorial Print Page
Two stone columns commemorate the men and women of the United States of America who joined in the defence of Australia in World War Two. Additional plaques have been added to the columns to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea and to honour the American service personnel who gave their lives during World War Two.
The two white stone columns are topped with an embossed effigy of the globe with nations detailed in gold. The columns are on either side of the path that leads to the edge of a pool with a water fountain. Plaques are situated on the front and base of each column.
Several high - ranking American officials will come to Adelaide to attend the unveiling of a memorial to US servicemen and women beside an ornamental lake in the Botanic Garden on Friday. The other reads:— "In deep gratitude to the men and women of the US who joined in the defence of Australia during the war of 1939-45." An American pin oak tree has been planted on the bank of the lake opposite the pillars. The secretary of the Australian-American Association (Miss G.
