The Sydney Memorial commemorates almost 750 men and women of the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Air Force and the Australian Merchant Navy who died in service or were killed in action during World War Two in the eastern and southern regions of Australia, and in adjacent waters south of 20 degrees latitude, and have no known grave.

Men of the Royal Australian Navy lost in these regions who have no grave but the sea are commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial in England, along with many of their comrades of the Royal Navy and of other Commonwealth Naval Forces.
