This large granite outcrop was the site of a lookout tower and signal mast which operated during World War II.  Remnants may still be seen. Fifteen Naval Reservists travelled from the Forts Barracks to Stone Hill each day to clear the site, constructed the road and erect the buildings from October to December 1939.
