The Bofors Gun was presented to the Little Ship Club as a permanent loan in recognition of the contribution of the Naval Auxilary Patrol to local surveillance during World War Two.

The Naval Auxiliary Patrol (NAP) was a war-raised unit approved on 25 June 1941. It was charged with patrolling and safeguarding Australia's inner harbours, ports, rivers and estuaries against enemy sabotage or attack.

Founded in October 1951, the Little Ship Club (Qld Squadron) was created by members of the Naval Auxiliary Patrol who, together with their ‘little ships’, had done valuable work in Queensland waters during World War Two.
