Manly War Memorial ParkPrint Page
The garden was established to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action during World War Two. Within the garden stands an obelisk with bronze emblems of the Navy, Army and Air Force.
A public meeting was called by Mayor Scharkie in 1951 to discuss a memorial to the dead of World War Two, and a second meeting resulted in the construction of a memorial garden, which was named War Memorial Park.
The War Memorial Park was dedicated on 30 October 1953. A Remembrance Day Ceremony was held on 8 November 1953 at which His Excellency the Governor Lieutenant-General Sir John Northcott, K.C.M.G, C.B, M.V.O formally unveiled the memorial.
