Unveiling ceremony Tarcoola (From a correspondent)
On Sunday, November 9, the C.W.A. members, with a simple service, unveiled the progressive roll of honor for Tarcoola and district. The service was conducted by Sister Symons, with Mrs. Conlin at the piano. A small table was covered with a beautiful cloth which had been sent to Mrs. G. Slade by Pte. J. Hall, who is now serving overseas. After the National Anthem, all present joined in singing hymns. The roll of honor was unveiled by the president of the C.W.A. branch (Mrs. A. Williams).
The lights in the hall were dimmed, leaving one bright light shining upon the honor roll, which was covered with a Union Jack. In a few well-chosen words, the president conveyed to those assembled the fact that the members were proud of the men who had so willingly offered their services for King and country. On the roll were the names of the men who have paid the supreme sacrifice. These include: Sig. L. Duffy, Pte. E. R. Phennig, and Pte. R. P. Holmes. The president then removed the Union Jack. Mr. L. Fredericks, a returned soldier from the 1914-18 war, placed a wreath of laurel leaves at the base of the memorial. Sister Symons then offered a short prayer, which was followed by two minutes' silence, the Recessional and the oldest of hymns, "Abide with Me," were sung. Benediction closed the service.
