The sign commemorates the 50th anniversary of the end of World War Two and the use of the Toogoolawah Airfield during  World War Two

"Australia Remembers, 1945 - 1995" was a program of activities organised by the Federal Government to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of  World War Two.

50th anniversary of the end of World War II

The Toogoolawah Airfield was built in 1942 and was home to 5 Squadron R.A.A.F. during 1942 and 1943.  At that time the 
Squadron was equipped with Tiger Moths and Wirraways and at a later stage Boomerang fighters.  The Airfield was originally planned as a maintenance and repair base.
