THE PEACE TREE WAS PLANTED AND DEDICATED ON 7TH JUNE 1996 AS A LIVING MEMORIAL TO THE CITIZENS OF THE COONAMBLE SHIRE WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES DURING WORLD WAR 11 OR WHO SUPPORTED THE WAR EFFORT AT HOME.
THEIR COURAGE, SACRIFICE AND COMMITTMENT BRINGING THEM GREAT HONOUR AND ETERNAL GRATITUDE OF SHIRE RESIDENTS WHO ENJOY A HARD WON PEACE.
