The trees commemorate those from Mapleton and District who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.

There were originally four of these trees, but one was removed when the front of the hall was altered. The fifth name was added to the plaque in recent years.

A tree planting ceremony at the Mapleton Hall grounds has been arranged for Friday the 27th inst. in connection with the School Arbour Day. The trees will be planted to perpetuate the memory of four fallen soldiers, namely: J. J. Logan, R. Logan, J.McKinnon and T. Waller. A working bee was arranged for Saturday the 14th inst., but heavy rain prevented the good resolutions from materialising, and many members who promised assistance did not allow their proffered services to be carried forward to the following Saturday.
