The hall was erected to commemorate those who served in World War One.

The Soldiers' Memorial Hall at Blrralee was opened by the Hon. G. H. Pitt, Warden of Westbury, on Thursday, in the presence of a large gathering. Mr. A. E. D, Priestley, chairman of the hall committee, introduced the speaker. Mr. Pitt congratulated the residents on their very fine hall, and spoke in glowing terms of the voluntary labour given by many; of the residents and others, which lessened the price of the building considerably. Mr. W. C. Gowans (Warden of Beaconsfield) spoke in similar terms.  Mr. T. Squires recited one of his original  poems entitled "Birralee Past and Present " which was well received. Before dispersing, the gathering rose and sang the National Anthem.
