The pine trees were planted in memory of those who lost their lives in World War One. The plaque and cairn were erected to recognise the service personnel and citizens of Robe in times of war and peace.
Robe, October 10. The Progress Association have in hand the erection of sawn paling tree guards round the Norfolk Island pines, recently planted on the esplanade to the memory of the soldiers killed at the front; also a swing on the beach, and a four part shelter on the esplanade.
