The tree commemorates those who served with the 1st Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train. The tree was planted in 1934 and was No. 46 in the ballot. 

The 1^st Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train (1^st RANBT) was formed in Melbourne on 28 February 1915 and was intended to be a horse drawn engineering unit attached to the Royal Naval Division (RND), then serving as infantry on the Western Front. The term ‘train’, in its title, was a direct reference to the horse-drawn wagons that would, in theory, form and move ‘in train’ to carry the unit’s heavy lumber, building materials and engineering equipment to the front.  

The unit composed of volunteer members of the Royal Australian Navy Reserve, served in the Gallipoli, Sinai, and Palestine Campaigns. The unit was stood down in May 1917. 

One of the most picturesque ceremonies yet held at the Shrine of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, 4th August, when nearly 100 trees will be planted along the main approaches - on the city side. Each tree will represent a Victorian unit or association, and each will be planted by a representative of the unit concerned after a brief, address at 3 p.m. by the chairman of the shrine trustees (Sir H. Chauvel) at the intersection of the main approach and Government House drive. The position of the trees for each unit was selected by ballot.
