City of Brighton Avenue of Honour Memorial : 08-March-2013

The monument marks the Avenue of Honour which no longer exists. It contains the names of 82 men who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.
Shortly after the end of World War One, an avenue of honour consisting of flowering gums was planted in Brighton with the object of commemorating residents of the district who fell in the war. The trees were planted by the next of kin of the soldiers and were protected by a guard bearing a copper plate showing the name to be commemorated. By 1927, many of the trees were affected by scale.
