The cenotaph commemorates those who served in World War One.
"To the Punchbowl soldiers who fought in the great war, 1914-1919, their fellow citizens raised this token of appreciation." This is the inscription borne by the Punchbowl soldiers' memorial, which was unveiled by the State Commandant (Major-General Lee), in the presence of several hundred people, on Saturday afternoon. The memorial is constructed of freestone, of modest but neat design, and stands about 20ft high. Over 70 names are enrolled upon it. "The work of our soldiers," said General Lee, "was of such magnitude that it will be many years before we realise what they have actually accomplished. On the blood of the men who died will the future of Australia be built."
