The monument commemorates those from the District who served in World War One. The monument was unveiled on Empire Day, 1921.
NIMBIN, Thursday. At a public meeting (about 60 attending) last night in the School of Arts to discuss the advisability of erecting a memorial in honor of the soldiers who volunteered for active service from Nimbin and the surrounding parts, Mr. Cullen presided and Mr. Kilmister acted as secretary pro tem. The Rev. A. G. Moore proposed, and Mr. J. Fredericks seconded, that a cottage hospital be erected.
As an amendment. Mr. W. Eann (late A.I.F.) proposed that a monument be erected at the intersection of roads in the middle of the township, donated for the purpose. This was seconded by Mr. J. Jones, supported by Mr. J. T. Hutchinson, and carried. A committee consisting of Messrs. Allsopp, sen., Jones, W. Rann, and J. W. Bagust, were appointed to get plans, specifications, and prices, and then a public meeting will be called and information submitted and discussed.
