The monument commemorates those who served in World War One.

The Soldiers' Memorial, which was erected by the people of this district was officially unveiled by the Hon. Austin Chapman on Sunday afternoon last, in the presence of a large gathering.  Ald. N.F. Smith, Deputy-Mayor, occupied the chair and he had with him on the platform the Revs. Father Roche, Siterris, Marshall and Gibson.  Ald. Smith said the memorial had cost £500 to erect, and it should have been erected months ago, but for the interference of Mr. Mutch, the Minister for Local Government, who would not approve of the design and refused his consent to its erection in a public place.

It was only after months of fighting, and with the assistance of Mr. Bailey, M.L A. that his approval was at last given. Mr. Chapman said it was one of the finest memorials he had seen and good enough for any city suburb or much larger and more prosperous centres than this. Addresses were delivered by the Reverend gentlemen present, and the proceedings were concluded by the Band playing the National Anthem.
