The stained glass window commemorates those connected with the church who served in World War One.

The congregation of the Brougham Place Congregational Church decided to erect a stained glass window in honour of the men of the church who enlisted and a large gathering assembled on Sunday afternoon to witness the ceremony of unveiling, which was performed by the pastor (Rev. Alfred Gilford), who also gave an address on "War and religion." He said that the glory of the men who enlisted was that they hated war and its limitless obscenity, but they faced its horrors and took its risks at the call of duty, to establish the  principles of justice, freedom, and order.

The window, which is surmounted by a brilliant and effective treatment of the Commonwealth soldiers' badge of the Rising Sun on a rich blue ground, is a double one. Each half contains a list of names in alphabetical order, there being 70 names in all. The olive wreath of victory, is part of the design, and in the background there is a shadowy cross. In an oval above each window appear the words "In honour," and beneath it the text, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.' A large congregation gathered for the morning service, when the Rev. E. B. Woode, B.A., B.D., preached, and in the evening the church was crowded to hear the oratorio "Elijah."
