St Mark's War Memorial OrganPrint Page
The organ commemorates members of the Parish who served in World War One.
St. Mark's Memorial Organ: The new parochial council of St. Mark's Church, Warwick, for the forthcoming year held a very successful and enthusiastic meeting on Tuesday evening last, which was presided over by the Rev. W. P. Glover. The principal business discussed was that of the long deferred proposal of installing a new organ in memory of those who enlisted in the World War and of those who paid the supreme sacrifice. Incidentally we are informed that the list of names will be over 300. It has not been definitely decided how the names will be displayed in St Mark's Church, but it will be either in the form of brass or marble tablets, most probably the latter. It is roughly estimated that this alone will cost over £200. The people's warden (Mr. George Lobb), dealt in detail at Tuesday evening's meeting, with the scheme for a new memorial organ.
After considerable discussion the parochial council decided that an order be placed without delay with Mr. J. Earnshaw, of Sydney, who is an expert organ designer, for the purchase of an organ from England which will be fitted with the most modern appliances. The expenditure in this connection will be at least £1200. We are assured that when this organ is installed it will be one of which the parishioners of St. Mark's Church and of the district will be justly proud. The Churchwardens have full confidence in the loyalty and generosity of the parishioners that this amount will be met. Though the financial liability may be large it is considered that the memorial organ, etc., will prove a fitting tribute and a mark of respect to those who enlisted and fought, and so many of whom died, in defence of our liberty.
