100th Anniversary of Gallipoli LandingPrint Page 
The large sculptural mural was gifted to the Buderim community to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. It honours the sacrifice of Australia’s service men and women in world conflicts. The finished mural, measures 3 metres by 1 metre and weighs about 250 kilograms.
Air Commodore (Ret) Kevin Henderson unveiled the mural at Buderims War Memorial Hall on Sunday 19th April at 2.30 pm. The mural was dedicated by Father Jeremy Greaves of St Mark’s Anglican Church Buderim. The mural had been 18 months in the making in the pottery studio at Buderim Craft Cottage.
15 members of the Cottage’s Potters Group undertook the complicated process of designing, creating full scale templates, preparing over 300 kilograms of clay, sculpting and carving, applying colour, kiln firing and assembly of approximately 500 sections of the mural.

Lest We Forget
This mural portrays Buderim and surrounding areas.
The Glasshouse Mountains with the sun setting behind them.
The poinciana tree which has become a symbol of Buderim.
The poppies represent the fields of Flanders.
The horseman honouring the Light Horsemen of the First World War, an aboriginal soldier, a nurse caring for her patient, a mother with her son thinking of her husband far away, and all services and their insignia.
The garden is also symbolic
To the right stands a lone pine.
To the left is a weeping Lilly Pilly characterising a weeping family, then there are red geraniums and other red flowers which represent the poppies of Flanders.
At the front are three brick seats which depict the ships going to Gallipoli.
