Memorial and ceremonial space

This memorial and ceremonial space integrates a number of traditional symbols of the war memorial into a contemporary architectural form.

The memorial space is encompassed by an open circle, which represents the wholeness and completion.  Within the space are three smaller circles and a triangular shape, which symbolizes the three armed forces.

The memorial houses three truncated pillars, which symbolise lives cut short.

At the centre of the memorial is a triangular enclosure, which represents the memory of lives lost from each of the armed forces.  Three triangular sculputural forms open out and rise upward from this space, revealing an illuminated glass prism representing regeneration, new life, and a positive future.

The driveway paving design was inspired by the rising sun image from the army badge, and provides a directional link fromthe memorial to the surrounding landscape.

The pedestrian paving design was inspired by images of land contours and ocean waves, representing the Australian homeland for which so much was sacrificed.

The memorial design was developed by artist, Dennis Magee.
