St George War MemorialPrint Page
The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.
It was erected by former prisoners of war and the citizens of the District, and was unveiled by the Honourable Reg Swartz, Minister for Health, who was a prisoner of war of the Japanese at Changi, Singapore, during World War Two.
Marble plaques commemorate sailors, soldiers, airmen, and women who died in service or were killed in action in World War One, World War Two and all other wars. The memorial was rededicated on the 1st October 2005 to commemorate Ex Prisoners of War and all Australians who served their country. A time capsule was also laid at the site.
