The monument was erected by the residents of Drayton and District to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. A plaque was added at a later date to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two and the Korean War.
The unveiling and dedication of Drayton and District Fallen Soldiers Memorial on the 28th June 1924 attracted a large gathering. Accompanying Lieutenant Colonel Fortescue, who unveiled the monument was Lieutenant W.H.Hilless area officer of the 25th Battalion which provided a firing party with Captain N.G. Hatton in charge. After the unveiling ceremony three volleys were fired by the trainees and "The Last Post" was sounded.
