The fountain commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in the Korean War (1950 - 1953), the Malayan Emergency (1948 - 1960), the confrontation in Borneo (1962 - 1966) and the Vietnam War (1962 - 1973).

The fountain was redeveloped in 1986 and 1987.
