The War Memorial was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action during World War One. The names of those who died in service or were killed in World War Two were added at a later date.

Special services were held in the churches on Sunday, and Monday was observed as a strict holiday. Early in the afternoon people from all parts of the district began to assemble to witness the unveiling of the memorial monument erected for the fallen soldiers from Mole Creek. Proceedings were opened by the rendering of the National Anthem by the Western Brass Band; Councillor Scott presided. The mothers of the fallen soldiers unveiled the monument, and then followed a period of silence.
