It was originally erected to commemorate those from the district who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two.

The citizens of Lindisfarne dedicated this plaque on 27 August 2005 to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II and in lasting commemoration of the fallen of all conflicts in which Australian service personnel and civilians made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation

National Service Memorial
This plaque commemorates the 287,000 young men called up for National Service in the Army, Navy and Air Force between 1951 and 1972.
Of them, 187 were killed and 1,479 wounded overseas
