Cross of SacrificePrint Page
The Cross of Sacrifice commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.
It is a white marble cross on a stepped base and was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. Approximately 600 men enlisted in World War One out of a district population of about 3,000.
The main feature of the Renmark golden jubilee celebrations, which were continued yesterday, was the unveiling of a new marble Cross of Sacrifice Mr. Hawker, M.H.R. This beautiful memorial stands in the gardens opposite the Soldiers' Memorial Hall, and is a tribute to those who fell in the Great War.
