The monument commemorates veterans of the Korean War, the Malayan and Borneo conflicts, and the Vietnam War.

The monument is a paved rest area with garden seats and three stone and cement garden plots. On each of the plots are two bronze plaques.

In 2020, the Port Pirie Regional Council and the Port Pirie RSL partnered to enhance the monument in time for that year`s Vietnam Veterans Day on August 18.  Four bollards commemorating the theatres of war in South East Asia including; Malaysia, Borneo, Vietnam and Korea have been installed along Memorial Drive.

Each bollard features a short story as well as the number of Australians who served, were wounded and died in conflict.  The idea was raised by Counillor Jack Keain who suggested placing bollards at war memorials in Port Pirie. The Port Pirie RSL received a "Saluting Their Service" commemorative grant through the Department of Veteran Affairs to enhance the monument.
