Mundoora War MemorialPrint Page
The War Memorial was originally erected to commemorate those from the district who served in World War One. The names of those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two were added at a later date.
On view this week, at F. Basse & Co., Beehive Corner, is the statue of an Australian soldier (4 ft. high), which has been sculptured out of South Australian marble, quarried at Angaston. The sculptors (S.A. Monumental Works West Terrace, Adelaide) are making several of these (also life size ones as well) to be erected in various country towns in memory of fallen soldiers. This is also starting a new industry, as in the past all statues were imported. Among others the S. A. Monumental Works are executing is one for Mundoora and life-size statue for Port Broughton.
The Register (Adelaide), 4 March 1920.
