The Soldiers' Memorial was originally erected to commemorate those from the District who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. It now also commemorates those who served in World War Two and Post World War Two conflicts.
A plaque was added to the memorial in 2015, to commemorate the centenary of the Gallipoli landings.
As was truly said by one of the speakers on Tuesday last, April 25 the unveiling of the Kadina and District Soldiers' Memorial was perhaps one of the closing public acts in connection with the Great War. In the present instance it was coincident with the celebration of "ANZAC Day" and this fact made the large gathering and the ceremony memorable indeed. Cr. Roach, who was received with applause, thanked the soldiers for the high honor they had conferred upon him in asking him to unveil the memorial. He had endeavored to do his duty during the war as Mayor of the town, and he was deeply grateful for their appreciation. As chairman of the Memorial Fund Committee, he wished to inform them how the money had been raised and spent. In April, 1919, the citizens of Kadina and District had subscribed to an appeal for a memorial to those who had made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War, and an amount of about £1,500 had been collected.
Various proposals were suggested and in March, 1921, a new proposal was brought forward, to approach the Education Department and try to obtain a High School for Kadina. The returned men expressed their willingness to donate £1,000 towards the memorial High School, and the Minister of Education agreed to the scheme. The result of these negotiations was that we would have shortly a High School that will be a lasting memorial to the brave men who fought for us, and a benefit of inestimable value to their children and children's children. The balance was used to erect the Memorial Arch and the statue of the soldier, entirely designed by the soldiers themselves, at a cost of £540. Two guns would be mounted, one at either pillar, and these would be to hand after the Melbourne Trophy Exhibition.

The centenary of the Gallipoli landings was commemorated by the Yorke Peninsula and District Returned & Services League, Ex Service Personnel, next of kin and the community with a march through Kadina and service at the
Memorial Arch on the 18th April 2015.
