The monument was originally erected to commemorate those from the District who served in World War One.
The names of those who served in World War Two were added in 1949. A plaque was placed at a later date to commemorate those who served in Post World War Two conflicts.
The monument is a granite obelisk on a 3-stepped base. There are pictorial representations on bronze plaques on each face of the monument.
On Wednesday last His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by Lady and Miss Priscilla Weigall, and attended by Captain Houston Boswell and Dr Williams, paid his first official visit to Hallett for the purpose of unveiling the Soldiers' Memorial erected in memory of the boys of the district who fell and fought in the recent great war.
The memorial is a fine piece of work standing about 16ft high, is of grey granite composed of three large blocks on which is a pedestal, with a column about 5ft in height ; the cost of the memorial was about £600. On each side of the pedestal are very fine large cast bronze plate and on the front plate is the following inscription, 'Erected by the residents in the district in memory of our boys who fought in the Great War, 1914-1918,' and beneath is depicted a picture of infantry in action. On the back a beautiful design is worked in the metal of a dove holding in its beak a scroll on which is written the names of the men who fell.

A memorable service was held at Hallett on Sunday, April 3rd, when the new War Memorial Plaque was unveiled. There was a large crowd present to witness the very impressive ceremony. The returned men, in line, were inspected by Sir Robert Nicholls, after which, Mr Miller, Chairman of the Hallett District Council, introduced Sir Robert to the people present. Sir Robert's address was most impressive and most touching when referring to those who had paid the supreme sacrifice. He then unveiled the plaque which contained the names of all who had served during World War Two.
