The hall commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It was opened on the 14th April 1957 as the Blackwood and District War Memorial Hall but underwent building alterations and was reopened on the 19th July 1985. It is now known as Blackwood Memorial Hall.
Tenders for the Blackwood and District War Memorial Hall close on January 25 and the memorial committee hopes a contract will be settled in February. The architects are the Adelaide firm of F. Kenneth Milne, Dawkins, Boehm and Ellis. The hall will be of community type, and uses will include films, dances and other social activities. It is hoped building will be completed before the end of 1954.

Funding For The Alteration Work Was Provided By
The Community Employment Programme, The
Mitcham Council And The Hall Committee. During
Rebuilding, The Foundation Stone Was Relocated
Close To Its Original Position.
