Willaura War MemorialPrint Page
The monument commemorates those from the District who served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. It was originally erected in memory of those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. The names of those who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two were added in April 1946. A further inscription commemorates later conflicts.
Willaura. A public meeting was held at the Mechanics' Hall on Tuesday to discuss the proposed memorial to fallen soldiers from the district. It was reported that it was proposed in Ararat to collect money from the whole shire to erect a memorial there, but local residents prefer to have something placed in Willaura, as many of them never visit Ararat. After it had been decided to erect a memorial at some future date the meeting was adjourned.
